Shortly before midnight on Feb. 4, 2022, police said Jamel Flint, now 26, shot the five victims at Melody Hookah Bar, blocks from the Virginia Tech Campus in Blacksburg, The Roanoke Times reported.

Isiah O. Robinson, an 18-year-old high school student and football player, died in the attack, police said.

The evening after the shooting, Flint was recording on Facebook Live when he went to the Roanoke Police Department.

“I’m about to turn myself in. I’m clean. Ya feel me. Whatever, we can go from there,” he says on the video. “Lawyer already on the way. I ain’t trippin'.”

During the recording, Flint tells officers to “chill” and states he’s unarmed, innocent and at the station to turn himself in after, he claimed, officers battered down his grandmother’s door while searching for him.

The video ends after police ordered Flint down on the ground and arrested him.

Flint initially was charged with multiple crimes that included first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and using a gun to commit a felony, Blacksburg police said.

WBDJ reported that during his recent trial, Flint took the stand in his own defense and claimed self-defense, testifying that he opened fire after someone pulled a gun on him while he was outside the hookah lounge.

“I ain’t gonna lie, it scared me low key because I’m just coming from being shot so I don’t really know what he’s planning on doing or if he’s just trying to pump fake but I ain’t about to wait and see,” Flint told the court.

Despite his testimony, a jury found Flint guilty of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is currently scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 16.
