Man Fired A Shot Into An Apartment Ceiling During Domestic Dispute Killing Person Above, Police Say

A man fired a shot during a domestic dispute. Instead of killing one of the people involved, it hit an innocent woman in a nearby apartment, police said.

Around 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 19, deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at an apartment complex. When deputies arrived, they went to a third-floor apartment and found a woman dead with a gunshot wound.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Investigators said a suspect, who lived on the second floor, fired a shot toward the ceiling during a domestic dispute. The bullet hit the woman in the upstairs apartment and killed her.

Last week, authorities announced they arrested A’Monte Zariq Jones, 20, in connection to the case.

He was charged with murder and a host of other counts. He is being held in jail without bond.

“As always, any loss of life is a loss to our community. Even though our hearts are heavy, we are saddened by the tragic loss of life. Rest assured, the investigation is ongoing, so justice is brought to the life that was lost in this tragic incident.” said Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr.
