Man Accused Of Trying To Gun Down His Uncle As They Drove Along A North Carolina Road

A man in North Carolina is accused of trying to kill his uncle in a violent attack that at first seemed like a road rage incident, police said.

Around 4:30 p.m., the Nash County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina responded after David Alston, 65, called 911 to say he was being followed as he drove along a road.

The two vehicles turned, and the suspect’s car fired shots toward Alston’s car, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect then rammed the victim’s car and caused it to spin out.

The suspect got out of the car and fired several shots at the victim, hitting him at least one as Alston tried to flee out the passenger door, according to the sheriff’s office.

Alston was also hit several times in the face with a gun.

Bystanders stopped thinking the scene was a vehicle crash and to try and stop further violence, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies arrived and detained the suspect, who was identified as Corey Dannel Alston. Corey Alston was the victim’s nephew.

David Alston was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

Corey Alston was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflecting serious injury. A motive is not known in the case. He is being held in jail on $250,000 bond.
