Donte Jones, whose parents were injured in the crash, told WSOC-TV, “Carlos, my stepfather, he still can’t walk. My mom is still on crutches.”

Authorities said his parents, Carlos and Trish Gatewood, have a long road to recovery and their friend, Micky Brown, was killed in the crash.

Lowery was known for having to wear an ankle monitor, WSOC-TV stated. However, it was not known if he was wearing one at the time of this incident.

Police said there was a handgun in the vehicle Lowery was driving, which is illegal for him to have because of his age.

Lowery was arrested and now faces a murder charge, officials said.
