A well-known New Jersey photographer was found beaten to death in his home last month. Now, police say a 16-year-old boy has been charged with his murder.
Benjamin Stone, 40, had just moved to Jersey City and had a close-knit group of friends, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office stated.
On April 27, one of those friends said he stopped answering texts and phone calls. They called the police to do a wellness check, according to authorities.
Police arrived at Stone’s home around 1:30 a.m. April 27 and found him dead, police said.
According to the medical examiner, the cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma to the torso and the medical examiner ruled the death to be a homicide.
Prosecutors announced the arrest of a 16-year-old in connection to the killing on May 6, but there were no details on the relationship between Stone and the teenager.
The teen's name was not released.
Michael Barbieri, a friend of Stone, told NBC New York he was “very shocked” to hear about Stone’s death, “He is a well-loved, amazing person. He's probably one of the best photographers I've ever met. We don't know of any disputes, we don't know of any confrontations he's had with people."
Barbieri added Stone did work for Ralph Lauren and Vogue.
The boy was charged as a juvenile and faces the murder charge, as well as counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
