On Jan. 27, Alexee Trevizo went to the emergency room at a hospital in Artesia complaining of back pains, the Artesia Police Department said.
While in the emergency room, medical staff informed Trevizo that she was pregnant and in labor, police said.
Trevizo locked herself in a bathroom, where she allegedly gave birth to a baby boy, according to investigators, and then tied the baby up in a bag and hid him beneath the trash in the can.

Officers responded to the hospital, but the baby had died from lack of oxygen by the time he was found, officials said.
The newborn’s body was sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator of New Mexico and the death was deemed a homicide on March 28, according to authorities.
