Officers responded to the hospital, but the baby had died from lack of oxygen by the time he was found, officials said.

The newborn’s body was sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator of New Mexico and the death was deemed a homicide on March 28, according to authorities.

On May 10, criminal charges were approved and Trevizo was arrested and charged with first degree murder and tampering with evidence, officials said.
