Investigators determined a dark color and tan two-tone SUV was traveling against the flow of traffic in the 100 block of Bourbon Street and hit the pedestrian victim from behind, dragging the victim for a short distance, according to a statement from the NOPD.

Bourbon Street is one of the most popular stretches in New Orleans for both locals and tourists.

The vehicle then turned onto Canal Street and fled the scene.

New Orleans EMS transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim has not been identified.

Gonzalez was arrested about 17 hours after the incident along Chef Menteur Highway, police said.
