2-Year-Old Dies From Blunt Force Trauma, Mom Accused Of Murder

A mom in New Orleans is accused of killing her 2-year-old son, who died from blunt force trauma, officials said.

This week, New Orleans police announced the arrest of Diane M. Ferrand, 25.

Around 5 p.m. on April 28, police responded to a report of physical abuse where the toddler was found unresponsive. The child was taken to the hospital with “multiple serious injuries,” police said.

The child’s mom, Ferrand, was arrested that day and charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, police noted.

The 2-year-old later died from his injuries. An autopsy determined the manner of death was a homicide, police said. According to WDSU, the child died from blunt force trauma.

But investigators have not said how the child sustained the injuries.

Ferrand was re-charged after the child’s death, this time with a count of second-degree murder, police said. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact investigators at (504) 658-5300.
