An independent investigator has found a disturbing clue near Nancy Guthrie’s home that could change the direction of the missing person case. As the search for the 84-year-old woman has gained nationwide attention, multiple crime enthusiasts and YouTubers have headed to Tucson, Arizona, to carry out their own investigation.
One of them is a man with the username Exploring With Jim on YouTube. Jim livestreams as he rides through the desert near Guthrie’s home in search of clues. In one of his recent streams, he came across a woman’s clothing lying around the desert.
Jim Found a Woman’s Button-down Shirt in the Desert
A YouTuber came across a woman’s clothing as he rode through the desert near Nancy Guthrie’s home.
Jim’s video shows him finding a button-down shirt with a red floral pattern. The YouTuber tapped the garment with a stick before leaving the scene. He told viewers he would not touch the cloth. Jim did not reveal whether he alerted law enforcement officials about the clue.
The video has more than 20,000 views at the time of writing, and many viewers have appreciated Jim's work. Others asked him to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) so that the agency could collect the clue.
One person wrote in comments, “Tell the FBI about your items you found..even if they are not Nancys..they may help someone else who is missing!!!” Another penned, “JIM SHOULD REPORT WHAT HE FOUND TO FBI...IF IT'S NANCY'S STUFF HE SHOULD GET THE REWARD.”
The clothing was found just days after another independent investigator, Jonathan Lee Riches, noticed a pair of tan pants in a desert wash. He spotted the garment near the home of Guthrie’s daughter and son-in-law, Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni. Riches claimed that the pants looked identical to the ones worn by Guthrie when she visited Savannah Guthrie on the Today show set.
The journalist said he told the FBI about the pants, but it remains unclear whether investigators officially collected them as evidence. Many also argued that Guthrie might not be wearing pants during her abduction, as she was allegedly taken from her home in the middle of the night.
Nancy Guthrie's Whereabouts Remain Unknown
Nancy Guthrie's remains missing from her Arizona home.
Guthrie's whereabouts remain unknown despite an extensive search by the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. The grandmother has been missing for more than 45 days and she was last seen by her family on the night of January 31. Detectives believe that Guthrie could have been forcefully taken from her home, as they noticed blood drops on her front porch.
Footage released by the FBI shows a masked and armed man tampering with Guthrie's Ring camera shortly before her abduction. The surveillance cameras soon stopped working, and Guthrie's pacemaker sent its last signal to her phone around 2:30 a.m. on February 1.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said, though the crime looks targeted, the perpetrator could strike again. Meanwhile, the Guthrie family is praying for her return and has promised a $1 million reward to anyone who provides information leading to her.
