A New York City 18-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing his 16-year-old girlfriend inside an apartment, police said.
The NYPD said Zyaire “Ziggy” Crumbley was arrested on Dec. 12 in connection with the deadly attack on Saniyah Lawrence around 6 p.m. the previous day, the New York Post reported.
Lawrence was rushed to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
Citing police sources, the Post reported the suspect got into an argument with the victim after she received a call from another boy.
He took her phone, and when she attempted to grab it back from him, the Post reported, Crumbley allegedly warned her to “stay away” or he would stab her. He then allegedly knifed her once in the neck, the Post reported.
Lawrence managed to phone 911 and scream for help, according to the outlet.
Crumbley was being held without bail.
According to the Post, Crumbley has a criminal history that includes a 2020 robbery conviction as well as five previous robbery arrests since 2016.
