New York Local Authorities Deny Cooperation With ICE, Refuse To Remove Illegal Alien And Criminal From Streets

NYDOC refuse cooperation with ICE to remove accused illegal immigrant
The New York City Department of Correction has refused to honor and comply with an ICE detainer. It comes after the federal department issued a detainer for an illegal Mexican immigrant who had been facing felony charges in Queens.
The latest move by local authorities in New York has once again sparked a debate over the previous and current administrations’ approach to border security. The Trump administration has consistently accused Biden-era policies of allowing undocumented immigrants to enter the United States without any thorough background checks.
Illegal Immigrant From Mexico Charged With Arson
The suspect in question was Roman Amatitla, who faced federal charges on April 9. According to the Queens District Attorney, Melinda Katz, the suspect was charged with arson and eight counts of second-degree murder.
Amatitla allegedly set fire to a Flushing apartment building. The list of victims also included a 3-year-old girl. In her statement, Katz found the suspect’s crime to be an act of mass murder.
Subsequently, the Department of Homeland Security further shed light that Amatitla was an illegal and undocumented immigrant in American soil from Mexico.
Is New York city local authorities shielding illegal criminal immigrants?
NYDOC Turns Blind Eye To ICE Request
Based on his background and the nature of the crime, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement faced a major setback. The New York City Department of Corrections refused to supply updates on the suspect's release.
Local authorities haven’t been able to realize the alleged threat posed by Amatitla. A recent report released by the DHS showed that local authorities have refused to provide any updates about Amatitla’s release.
The fact that NYC authorities are refusing to honor valid detainers on immigrants in the country illegally who were accused or convicted of crimes has reportedly raised concerns about repeat offenses.
Future Of Local Authorities As They Turn More Hostile Towards ICE
Aside from New York City, similar hostility between local authorities and ICE is expected to create a rift in Albany as well. It is reported that the city is expected to pass a bill that would make it almost illegal for local authorities to cooperate with ICE in such circumstances.
These changes are now being defined as a tactic used by Democrats. They are still following Biden-era policies. The previous administration had reportedly put in place reckless immigration policies. These included strict restrictions on ICE’s ability to arrest and deport criminal immigrants who came from other countries.
In the meantime, the Congress, through its bipartisan bias, argued a very different take on the matter. They stated that if a citizen as well as an illegal immigrant commits the same crime, the punishment, including arrest, conviction and imprisonment, should be of the same measure.
However, since following equity is at the heart of all these policies, a sanctuary is given to illegal immigrants. It owes to the fact that they face the fear of deportation, which is not exactly the outcome for valid citizens committing a crime.
