Newsom Coins New Two-Word Nickname for Trump

California Governor Gavin Newsom continues to criticize President Donald Trump.

President Trump hosted his first "Board of Peace" meeting in Washington on February 19. During the meeting, he announced that several countries that signed on to the initiative contributed more than $7 billion toward a Gaza relief package, according to the BBC.

“There’s never been anything close because these are the greatest world leaders,” Trump said, according to The Daily Beast.

After his 45-minute speech, Trump appeared to doze off while seated at the Resolute Desk, and Newsom criticized the President on social media.

“That’s not a still photo of Dozy Don. He’s really just asleep,” read a post from the Governor's press office.

Cameras captured Trump with his eyes closed multiple times at event. “NAP TIME FOR THE BIG GUY,” an earlier post from Newsom’s account read.

Social media users mocked Donald Trump after the moment circulated online. “Dozy Don at the Board of Peace — he looks very peaceful,” read one post alongside a photo of Trump.

Another user wrote, “Dozy Don is seriously low energy,” while another posted, “Dozy Don taking his senior nap.”

Cameras zoomed in on Trump twice as he appeared to doze off — first while British Prime Minister Tony Blair was speaking. Later, he briefly jolted awake as Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait took the floor, but soon appeared to slump to the side again, eyes closed, as the King of Bahrain delivered his remarks, according to The Daily Beast.

Political group The Lincoln Project commented on the incident, “Bored of peace.” Another user wrote, “There goes Dozy Don again. Ending wokeness at 12 noon, like clockwork."

When reached for comment, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly told The Independent: “President Trump is the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history.”

This is not the first time Trump has faced scrutiny for appearing drowsy during official events.

When questioned after a cabinet meeting, Trump once argued that “it was a little bit on the boring side, but I didn’t sleep”. He insisted that cameras merely captured him when he was blinking his eyes.

Social media users were quick to point out the irony, reminding everyone that Trump is the same guy who loves calling Joe Biden “Sleepy Joe.”

Concerns continue to swirl, especially as Donald Trump holds the record as the oldest person ever inaugurated president, taking office for his second, nonconsecutive term at 78 years and seven months.
