First responders found Edmond Jay Moore Jr, 36, of Aurora, and performed CPR on the injured man, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

Further investigation showed that Moore was shot and not just ejected from the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies went to a nearby neighborhood after a report of a suspicious male walking door-to-door asking for a ride to Greenville, North Carolina. Authorities found the subject on Palm Drive and identified him as Jimmie Earl Speight Jr, 27, of Farmville. Police said they found guns and drugs on Speight when they arrested him.

Spight was charged with first-degree murder and shooting in an occupied vehicle. He is being held in jail on $3 million bond.

Speight was also charged with first degree forceable rape and first degree kidnapping from a March 4 case being investigated by our Major Crimes Unit. That case remains pending.
