A woman in Ohio will spend the rest of her life behind bars after she fatally shot her 6-year-old son in a hotel room after treating him out for a special day of fun, according to authorities.

In April 2021, authorities said 31-year-old Daneicha Bringht gave her son, Kashmir, sweets and brought him to a hotel in Brooklyn and let him swim in the indoor pool, WBNS reported.

Later in the day, the pair were in their hotel room when Bringht shot the boy 11 times.

Bringht then called police and claimed that an unknown man entered their room and shot her and her son about 30 minutes earlier, WBNS reported.

She eventually admitted to making up the story.

The mother recently pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and other charges as part of a plea deal with Cuyahoga County prosecutors and was sentenced to life in prison, law enforcement officials said.

Prosecutors agreed to drop charges that could have made Bringht eligible for the death penalty. She will now have to serve at least 35 years before she becomes eligible for parole, according to officials.

Bringht has a history of mental illness, including a diagnosis of schizophrenia, but she was determined competent to stand trial.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.

“I certainly understand and appreciate mental illness," Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Anna Faraglia said during the sentencing hearing, WBNS reported. "But the fact of the matter is that a... boy didn’t have to die that day, and he did. For that, she will have to pay the price."
