The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a case of a pre-wedding party gone horribly wrong. It happened when the 22-year-old groom, Nolan Engel, ended up shooting his best friend dead outside of a rental cabin in the state. He allegedly pulled the trigger after spotting a shadowy figure banging on the door of the property.

On Saturday, the cops from McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office arrested Engel from the Airbnb cabin he had booked for his bachelor’s party in Broken Bow. The victim, 21-year-old Braden Uhlman, was discovered with a fatal wound on his chest.

Oklahoma Groom Admits To Shooting Down His Best Friend

According to a KXII report, Engel started making “spontaneous statements” when officers arrived. He told officers he was the shooter responsible for shooting his friend.

Explaining his actions, Engel said he was on his bachelor’s trip with three other friends at the rental cabin. He claimed he suddenly heard knocking on the door and then spotted a shadowy figure outside.

Fearing a threat, Engel grabbed his 9mm handgun and fired a shot from inside the cabin. He later discovered it was his friend Braden lying on the porch. The bullet struck his chest, fatally wounding him. Although he was rushed to a local hospital, the victim died.

The Accidental Murder

As the investigation is ongoing, several unanswered questions remain unclear. For instance, whether the victim, Braden Uhlman, was an invited guest at the bachelor party or was there to surprise the groom is still unknown.

In its statement, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation stated, “Based on the information and evidence obtained, it was determined that Engel shot Uhlman. There were no other injuries reported, and this is still an ongoing investigation.”

Engel was charged with second-degree murder by the cops. However, he was later released from the McCurtain jail after posting a bond of $250,000.

Family Posts Obituary For Victim Gunned By Groom

The family of Braden Uhlman has been in mourning ever since. Born in Minnesota, he was remembered as a lifelong athlete with an everlasting love for football. He had a successful career in the sport at Kilgore College in Texas.

Later on, Braden attended Stephen F. Austin State University. He was pursuing a degree in accounting at the institution. Unfortunately, he left his coursework incomplete due to his death, as it was scheduled for completion in December.

The message in Uhlman’s obituary read, “Brady was a respectful man, he always opened car doors for ladies, held a door for anyone, and addressed people politely with a ‘yes ma’am or yes sir. Brady’s love extended far beyond his biological family; he was a son to many. To the families in Minnesota and Texas who claimed him as one of your own, THANK YOU for loving him as we did.”
