The older sister of Steffie Davies, 32, who was found dead and whose parents were sentenced to eight years in prison on March 19, shared her memories of Davies before she withdrew from society and confined herself to her home for years.
In a statement, Davies’ older sister, who did not want to be named, agreed her sibling “struggled” with social situations and that their childhood “wasn’t easy.”
She said she had last seen Davies at her own wedding in October 2015, but the pair became estranged soon afterward when Steffie cut her parents out of her life “to protect her own mental well-being.”
Despite this, she said she had lots of happy memories of Davies, who loved animals and enjoyed making up dances to ABBA while growing up.
“She had so much potential but needed the right encouragement and support, which she did not get,” her sister said. “I have sleepless nights thinking about what my sister went through, and if things had been different, I might have been able to help.
“What I replay over and over is that Steffie always listened to mum and dad and did what she was told."
“Why did they not take her to a doctor or call someone for help? How could they watch her fade away and do nothing? It is a question I will ask myself for the rest of my life.
“With the right support and encouragement, Steffie could have done so much with her life; instead, she was left to fade into insignificance in the most inhumane way possible. No sentence will ever be enough to atone for that.”

What Happened
Steffie Davies was found dead and in an “almost skeleton state” by paramedics who responded to a call in May 2023.
Davies’ parents, Alen and Bernita Davies, both 60 years old, were sentenced to prison on March 19. They were present in court when the judge, Justice Stacey, said: “There is no evidence of her ever having been shown love and affection.”
The mother, Bernita Davies, who was a supermarket supervisor, called paramedics on May 26, 2023, at around 8:30 a.m., to report her daughter’s death. When paramedics arrived, she told them that she had checked on Davies the previous day and found her sleeping.
However, medical reports indicated that Davies had been dead for several days before emergency services were called.
