Man Died After Getting Hit During Gang War Gunfire

Fifty-eight-year-old John Albert Guillen was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot in Orange County. The Santa Ana Police Department was informed of the gunfire at 12:30 a.m. on April 27, 2026. It took place near the intersection of Third Street and Daisy Avenue in the Artesia Pilar neighborhood.

When officers arrived at the crime scene, they found the victim suffering from two gunshot wounds to the head. Although paramedics promptly began treatment, they were unable to save Guillen’s life.

Heavy Police Presence At Scene Of Crime

After shooting, the police department took measures to cordon off the area and prevent further casualties. A heavy police presence helped secure the victim and prevent tampering with the crime scene.

Investigators revealed that Guillen was about to enter his car when the suspects approached him. They then shot him twice and left him to die before fleeing the scene. Homicide detectives later identified the suspects as 19-year-old Daniel Izaih Torres and 20-year-old Alicia Rebecca Marin.

The suspects were ultimately arrested on May 8 after police initially said they were absconding. The duo was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Ana Jail on suspicion of murder with gang enhancements.

Police Department Issues Statement After Deadly Gunfire

In the wake of the incident, the authorities urged people to avoid the area where the gunfire took place. Since it was a gang war-related crime, investigators feared that further chaos would break out easily. Moreover, it was important to keep the area intact as the investigation was still underway.

Once the suspects were arrested, the Santa Ana Police Department issued an updated statement on the crime. Besides the two individuals, it is reported that more arrests could take place owing to the involvement of gangs.

They stated, “Homicide Detectives prompted an investigation following the incident and identified Daniel Izaih Torres (19) and Alicia Rebecca Marin (20) as the suspects. On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, both Torres and Marin were taken into custody by detectives in Santa Ana. The investigation revealed that the suspects confronted the victim as he was getting into his vehicle over a gang rivalry, then shot him twice before fleeing the scene. Torres and Marin were subsequently booked at the Santa Ana Jail for Penal Code187(a) with gang enhancements.”

The victim’s family, after the incident, had set up a GoFundMe page, urging people to contribute to Guillen’s funeral. Besides, they expressed grief over the incident, as they remembered the kind person that he was.

An excerpt from the family’s obituary note read, “He was funny, always ready with a joke, and his kindness touched everyone he met. John cared deeply about people, especially his nieces and nephews, and he always checked in to see how my kids were doing. Though he had no children of his own, he treated all of us like his own family, making sure we felt loved and supported.”
