A man in England has pleaded guilty to murdering his girlfriend with a pair of scissors in what prosecutors say was an “exceptionally brutal” attack.

At a hearing Monday, Liam Taylor, 37, admitted he killed his girlfriend, Ailish Walsh, 28, on Dec. 15, 2022, The Guardian reported.

Walsh, who was 22 weeks pregnant at the time, was found dead by her father in her London home. She had been stabbed over 40 times.

“The attack was exceptionally brutal and carried out knowing Ms. Walsh was carrying the defendant’s child,” said the prosecutor, Jane Osborne. “There was a 12-week scan picture and at 22 weeks it would have been fairly evident.”

Osborne said a jacket containing the defendant’s debit card was draped over the victim’s body and the murder weapon, a pair of bloody scissors, were located nearby.

According to court testimony, the victim had messaged a friend and wrote she was trying to kick Taylor out of her apartment because he had been doing drugs.

The same friend said she called Walsh shortly before surveillance video captured Taylor leaving his girlfriend’s apartment. The friend reported hearing what sounded like fighting and screaming.

Taylor was arrested at his home the following day. According to police, the suspect, who had alcohol, cannabis and cocaine in his system, was captured on a recording while in custody talking about the murder.“It’s crazy how one moment of madness can change your whole life,” he allegedly said.

The Guardian reported Taylor’s has a criminal history that includes convictions for attacking female family members. He was incarcerated for one year after he used a metal pole to physically assault his mother, according to the outlet.

Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced on May 10.
