Savannah Guthrie’s recent interview has brought her brother, Camron Guthrie, under scrutiny. The Today show host appeared for her first on-camera conversation with Hoda Kotb since her mother Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

During the interview, Savannah Guthrie said she sometimes blames herself for her mother’s disappearance. She said her high-profile career may have made her family a target for criminals seeking ransom.

Camron acknowledged that Savannah’s fame may have been responsible for Nancy’s kidnapping.

Savannah Guthrie also said when she shared these thoughts with her brother, he agreed that her fame and wealth could be responsible for the tragedy. Recalling her conversation with Camron, Savannah said, “I said, ‘Do you think because of me? And he said, ‘I'm sorry, sweetie, but, yeah, maybe.’ But I knew that.”

As the 54-year-old continued to blame herself, she broke down during the interview and apologized to her mother. “Too much to bear to think that I brought this to her bedside, that it's because of me. I just have to say, I'm so sorry, Mommy. I'm so sorry,” she said.

She also sought forgiveness from her family saying, “I'm sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy and my brother-in-law, just, like, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry.”

Savannah Guthrie's emotional breakdown has left the internet talking, and many are criticizing her brother for his blunt response. Social media users are arguing that Camron should have been more sensitive and not placed the blame for Guthrie’s disappearance on Savannah.

“So sad this is not her fault & it’s sad her brother told her it was her fault how rude & harsh,” one user wrote on X. Another commented, “Sorry, but horrible thing to say by her brother. She already feels guilty, and then that? Nah, don't like it.”

One user remarked that Camron Guthrie should instead place the blame on himself, as they wrote, “Maybe Cameron sweetly should place the blame on himself for not securing his mom’s property. For not making sure her cameras have subscriptions.”

Another person pointed out that although what Camron said was valid, he should have chosen his words more carefully while speaking to his guilt-ridden sister. “If I was in his shoes, that would definitely be something that comes to mind. He should have phrased it better but he's not wrong in saying it's a possibility,” the user wrote.

Detectives await breakthrough after nearly two months of investigation.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on February 1 after she failed to attend a virtual church service. Though the family initially thought she had been taken to a hospital by paramedics due to a medical emergency, it later became apparent that she had been kidnapped.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been probing the case ever since. Detectives have gathered numerous pieces of evidence from Nancy’s neighborhood, but haven’t had a breakthrough after almost two months of investigation. After being with her family in Arizona during this difficult phase, Savannah is now gearing up to return to the Today show on April 6.
