She Had An Affair With Her Neighbor’s Husband And Her Son ‘Took Care Of Everything’— Inside Rebecca Sears’ Sinister Plot

Rebecca Sears' son Christopher killed Kay Parsons, but police believe she was behind the sinister plot
Laverne Kay Parsons was found beaten in her home. At first glance, it looked like a botched burglary. However, soon a sinister plot devised by her neighbor came to light, changing the course of the investigation.
Kay, 41, was found brutally beaten in her home on Hot Springs Drive in Grovertown, where she lived with her husband and their son Derek, 12.

The discovery came on March 25, 2009, when contractor Mitch Cozart arrived at the residence in the morning for some maintenance work.
Cozart found the glass of the back door open and called 911. When officers arrived at the scene, they found blood splattered across different rooms in the house. Investigator Jimmy Edmunds told Dateline, “It looks like the homeowner came home and surprised a burglar in her house, and a struggle ensued where she was beaten.”
The detective added, “You could tell there was more beating going on in the garage. There were blood splatters on the walls. She was already bleeding before she got to the garage."
Kay was found in a pool of blood in the garage. According to authorities, “She was beaten so severely you couldn’t recognize her.” At that point, she still had a heartbeat and was rushed to the hospital.
According to Dateline, medical professionals determined her injuries to be too extreme to survive, so she was taken off life support. Kay’s husband, Davis, who was away on a work trip, rushed back after his wife was found.
Meanwhile, Kay’s neighbor, Rebecca Bowers Sears, also reported a similar looting incident in her home. Authorities also found blood smears that appeared to be from Kay’s house. However, there were no signs of forced entry that brought Rebecca’s claim into suspicion.
Rebecca Claimed Her Son ‘Took Care Of Everything’ But Authorities Believe She Was The Mastermind

It was Rebecca’s brother, Jerry Jacobs, who prompted authorities to look into an alleged affair she was having with David. According to Jacobs, who was sentenced in a county jail for a traffic incident, the pair had been having a “passionate relationship” for almost a year.
However, after Rebecca told her husband about the affair, David called it off. Initially, Rebecca’s son, Michael, became a suspect in the murder. However, authorities learned that it was her other son, Christopher, who was aware of the affair.
In the 2023 episode of the ID series Mother, May I Murder? Edmunds revealed, “We were able to discover that it was a really strange mother-son relationship between Rebecca and Christopher. Everybody called him a 'mama's boy,' but it was to a different level.”
Rebecca gave up her son very easily after being interviewed by the detectives. “I didn’t want him to harm anybody, and I made him think that he did,” she said in an interview. She claimed that on the morning of the murder, she returned home, finding Christopher with blood on his face. He allegedly told her that he “took care of everything.”
Authorities were able to link him to the murder after Rebecca directed them towards a box in the attic of her mom’s house. It was filled with Christopher’s bloody clothes that served as concrete evidence of his crime.
Christopher allegedly beat Key to death with a hammer and baseball bat. He staged a burglary in his house to deceive law enforcement. Edmund strongly believes that Rebecca was the mastermind behind the plot.
The mother-son duo initially pleaded not guilty to murder, armed robbery, and burglary charges. In 2012, they offered negotiated guilty pleas and were sentenced to life in prison without parole.
