Son and his girlfriend arrested in Texas weeks after father found dead in his front yard

A Texas man is accused of murdering his father, and police have arrested and charged both him and his girlfriend in connection to the case.

On Nov. 18, Leonard Eral Chatman, 64, was found dead in his front yard in Livingston. The victim’s 40-year-old son, Lynnie Ray Chatman, and the son’s girlfriend, Brooke Ashley Cormier, 22, vanished shortly after the slaying and were later located in another county the following week, radio station KJAS reported.

On Dec.5, officials announced they have filed criminal charges against Lynnie Ray Chatman and Cormier and booked the couple into the Polk County Jail.

Chatman was charged with capital murder and is being held on a $1 million bond. Cormier was charged with tampering with evidence and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

According to KJAS, the couple face additional felony charges unrelated to the elder Chapman’s death. Law enforcement officials have not disclosed a possible motive for the murder.
