Law enforcement officials in North Carolina said a man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend and serious wounding of her mother’s fiancé.

On May 18, David McDowell, 24, reportedly killed the mother of his 2-year-old son, Zanayah White, according to an arrest report obtained by the Gaston Gazette.

McDowell then walked outside and shot the victim's mother’s fiancé in the face.

In an interview with the Gaston Gazette, White’s mother claimed McDowell allegedly sent threatening messages to family members following the deadly shooting.

According to White’s mother, her daughter tried getting a restraining order against McDowell, but she was unsuccessful because he did not have a permanent address at the time.

The mother also alleged that before the shooting, McDowell allegedly posted a song on Facebook about painting the sky red with blood.

The mother claimed McDowell came to the home and demanded White give him her phone.

“He killed my baby, just ’cause she wouldn’t give him her cellphone,” she told the Gaston Gazette.

White’s mother believes McDowell allegedly may have committed the killing because her daughter was in a new relationship, the Gaston Gazette reported.
