Murderer at Large After Shooting Straight-A Miami Student Biking to Pal’s House to Do Homework — ‘He Had A Future’

The family of a 16-year-old boy who was killed in Miami while riding his bike continues to hope for justice in the murder case.
Bryan Herrera, a straight-A student at Miami Jackson Senior High School, was fatally shot while bicycling to a friend’s house to do homework around 11 a.m. on Dec. 22, 2012.
His killer was never caught.
Miami police detective Nestor Amores told WPLG the age of the unsolved murder victim is troubling for him as the lead investigator on the cold case.
“It makes it even harder when it’s a juvenile,” Amores said.
According to Herrera’s loved ones, the young victim enjoyed karate and video games and he was a loving brother before his cold case murder over a decade ago.
- 18-year-old gunned down the day before leaving for the Air Force. Nine years later, police have yet to make an arrest
- 3-year-old shot the day after Christmas in 2011. A decade later, still no answers in the cold case.
- He was working at a construction site when he was murder. A decade later, police still have few answers.
Anabel Herrera told WPLG in a new interview that her stepson “had a future, then all of a sudden it’s gone.”
“It’s unexplainable,” she said. “We still have no answers. We don’t know why he was shot, who shot him.”
There is a reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Anyone who may have information about Bryan Herrera’s shooting death should contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
