Minnesota Man Accused of Fatally Running Over 17-Year-Old Girl With His Mazda 3 After Fight

A Minnesota man is accused of running over a teenager after he got into a late-night fight with a group of people.

Dylan Robert Simmons, 20, faces athird-degree murder and criminal vehicular homicide charge in connection with the death of 17-year-old Darisha Bailey Vath, KMSP-TV reported.

Around 1:20 a.m. on July 16, police and emergency responders in Forest Lake responded to the report of a girl injured and found Vath, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, police said, two groups were involved in a fight and some participants had weapons, including a knife and crowbar, baseball bats, and hammers.

After the incident deescalated, a complaint states, the suspect, Simmons, got behind the wheel of his Mazda 3 sedan and allegedly attempted to drive toward a group but instead struck a vehicle.

He then reversed the Mazda, according to police, who obtained video of the incident, and drove into the group and struck Vath.

Police said Simmons fled the scene, but officers were able to get in touch with a man who was a passenger in Simmon’s Mazda and convince the pair to return to where the incident occurred.

Officers arrested Simmons and booked him into the Washington County jail.

Officials claimed the suspect admitted to striking the teenager with his car.
