A Texas man was clearing his gun inside his home when he allegedly shot his wife by accident and now he faces a murder charge in connection to her death.

Around 1 p.m. on Nov. 14, the McKinney Police Department said they were dispatched to a residence after the 911 caller said he accidentally shot his wife while he was trying to “clear” his gun.

The wife, 21-year-old Shailene Velez, was pronounced dead at the scene, first responders said.

Police said they arrested 22-year-old Joel Torres in connection to the murder of Velez.

Torres was booked into the Collin County jail on a $200,000 bond, police said.

According to authorities, no other information is available in time for this report.
