Shelton’s son in Hawaii called the police to say that his dad reported shooting his girlfriend and threatened to harm himself, according to KWTX.

When police arrived, they found Shelton on the steps of the house, according to the report. He told police that Gilligan was “on the floor dead.”

He then added, “I’m the bad guy,” according to KWTX.

The shooting happened after an argument about Shelton sending money to his daughter, KWTX reported. Shelton now faces a charge of murder and is being held in a Texas jail.
