Texas Woman Charged with Murder After Shooting and Dumping Husband in the Lake

Woman arrested 24 years after she murdered her husband and dumped his body in the lake
A woman from Texas was arrested recently in connection with a murder that took place in 2002. New details surrounding the 24-year-old murder case have emerged earlier this year, which went cold after the body of Plano resident, identified as Frank Weiss, was recovered near Lake Lewisville in 2002.
55-year-old woman from Texas was arrested in late April and charged with murder in connection with the death of
Lisa Honrud, 55, from Texas, was arrested in late April and charged with murder in connection with the death of Weiss, her husband. The case was finally solved in April this year, thanks to advances in investigative techniques, modern technologies, and new information from a new witness, according to the Frisco Police Department.
Case Details
An arrest affidavit obtained by the local NBC affiliate, KXAS, on April 30, revealed what happened in the days and months leading up to the murder of Frank Weiss.
“Investigators learned Lisa and Frank went to dinner on June 2nd, 2002, and this was the last time anyone saw Frank alive,” according to the affidavit.
The police believe that Honrud shot Weiss with a .38 caliber firearm and then dumped his body in Lake Lewisville within the Frisco city limits. Weiss' body was found two days after the couple reportedly went out to dinner.
The authorities mentioned that Weiss's body was wrapped in black bags, tied up with rope and weighted down with sandbags duct taped to its legs,” the affidavit alleges. The police say Weiss had asked for an annulment before he was murdered, which Honrud signed and agreed to, according to the KXAS report. “Lisa spoke with Frank’s daughter on the phone and told her he went to Cancun and did not want to be bothered,” according to the affidavit.
Weiss reportedly submitted a change of beneficiary for his life insurance just a month before he was killed, naming his daughter as the sole beneficiary. It’s unclear, though, if Honrud was aware of the change.
Witness Statement
The witness who came forward and helped solve the 24-year-old case allegedly told the detectives that they had given Honrud a .38 caliber revolver before Weiss disappeared. “Upon learning Frank had been murdered with a .38 caliber, the witness confronted Lisa regarding the revolver he had had her,” the affidavit alleges. Lisa replied, “We got rid of it” by throwing it off the bridge over Joe Pool Lake, the witness said.
Weiss’ daughter, Carla Weiss, released a statement after Honrud’s arrest describing her father as a “wonderful man, kind of guy who put me on his shoulders for three hour to ride the pink Dumboo because no other color would do,” KXAS reported.
“He deserved better than this, and we deserve to have him in our lives a lot longer than we did,” Carla Weiss said.
