A Miami mother, Jazmin Paez, pleaded guilty to hiring a hitman to kill her 3-year-old son. However, as part of her plea deal, she avoided jail time. If she had been convicted, Paez could have faced up to 40 years in prison.

According to investigators, Paez searched for a hitman and stumbled upon a satirical website that does not actually offer such services.

Jazmin Paez submitted a request online for a hitman who could kill her toddler.

According to WTVJ, Paez, 20, pleaded guilty to soliciting first-degree murder, unlawful use of a communications device, and tampering with evidence. Under her plea bargain, Paez will not be classified as a convicted felon on her criminal record because prosecutors withheld adjudication.

Instead of a jail term, Paez will serve two years of community control, 12 years of probation, and court-ordered mandatory behavioral therapy. Court documents provided further details about how Paez sought a hired killer to target her toddler.

In July 2023, when she was 18, she online and found a website named rentahitman.com. She submitted a request asking for someone to take her son’s life “before the end of the week.” She even reportedly sent photos of her toddler and provided details of his location.

However, the website was actually satirical, and the owner noted that hundreds of sch requests are submitted every day. The owner immediately reported Paez’s request to the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD). Authorities were notified multiple times before the case was taken seriously.

After speaking with the toddler’s grandmother, investigators confirmed the child's identity. A detective went undercover as a hitman and contacted Paez, offering to carry out the killing for $3,000. Paez was arrested from her residence the same day.

Jazmin Paez's parental rights were terminated by a dependency court.

In court, Paez said she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Her parental rights were terminated by a dependency court, meaning she will not be able to contact her son until 2040.

The grandmother adopted the toddler, while Paez is still living with her father. Speaking with WTVJ, Paez's father said, “My daughter is not a monster.”

He added, “My daughter is a little girl who was born with health problems. She has fluid retained in her neck. She has had 12 surgeries, she lost the ability to move her face. She has been bullied in school. They called her ‘the monster'."
