O.J. Simpson’s Double Murder Trial

NFL Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson was accused of the double murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, in 1994. Brown Simpson and Goldman were stabbed to death outside her Brentwood home on the night of June 12, 1994.

Five days later, Simpson was arrested after a car chase. The case went to trial, which lasted 11 months. The trial gained widespread media attention, and the evidence came under intense public scrutiny.

Simpson was acquitted of the criminal charges in 1995. However, in 1997, a civil jury found him liable for the deaths and ordered him to pay $33.5 million. This was not the end of his legal troubles, as he later served nine years in prison for an unrelated 2007 armed robbery case.

The #MeToo Movement Against Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinstein enjoyed decades of success in Hollywood as a producer and earned several Academy Awards. He fell from grace in 2017 when an investigative report by The New York Times exposed that he had abused women in the industry for decades.

Dozens of victims, including actresses, models, and employees, came forward and alleged that Weinstein s—---- assaulted them. The accusations sparked the #MeToo campaign, which prompted abuse victims to speak up against powerful individuals.

Weinstein was convicted of s– crimes in California in 2022 and received a 16-year prison sentence. Meanwhile, he is also facing charges in New York, where the case has twice ended in a mistrial.

In December 2001, businesswoman and television personality Martha Stewart abruptly sold all 3,928 of her shares in the biopharmaceutical company ImClone Systems. A day later, the FDA rejected the company's new cancer drug. As a result, Stewart saved around $45,000.

She faced felony charges of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and lying to federal investigators. Stewart was ultimately found guilty of orchestrating a cover-up to hide a tip-off. She served five months in prison in 2004.

Bill Cosby’s Assault Charges

Comedian and actor Bill Cosby was charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and s—---- assaulting basketball player Andrea Constand in 2004. Over the years, more than 60 women accused the actor of assaulting them.

In 2018, a jury found him guilty of the charges. Though he received a sentence of 3 to 10 years, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his conviction in 2021, citing that Cosby’s due process rights had been violated during the trial.

R. Kelly’s Racketeering and Trafficking Ring

As an R&B superstar, R. Kelly dominated the music charts throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In 2019, the documentary series Surviving R. Kelly provided evidence that the singer had abused underage girls for years.

He underwent separate trials in New York and Chicago, and was convicted of s– trafficking, child p—-------, and federal racketeering. Kelly was sentenced to a combined 31 years in federal prison.
