Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, recently sued the California prison system after being stabbed 16 times by an inmate last year. He is seeking $100 million in damages, including $1 million per stab wound.

For context, the rapper was stabbed 16 times by inmate Santino Casio in May 2025, during an altercation in the yard of the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi, using a homemade shank.

"It is reasonable to value his damages, considering his celebrity status and earning potential, at $1 million per stab wound, $10 million due to facial scarring leading to career harm, $25 million for pain and suffering, along with the property loss of his song books," the documents stated.

Tory Lanez Allegedly Put $1M Price on Each Stab Wound After Inmate Attack

On Tuesday, Daystar Peterson filed a $100 million federal lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation alongside the warden and 50 corrections officers at California Correctional Institution (CCI) in Tehachapi, where he was being held during the altercation.

According to the lawsuit, cited by the Associated Press, Peterson was stabbed on his back, torso, head, and face in an "unprovoked life-threatening attack" by Casio. He suffered two collapsed lungs as well as permanent scarring. The rapper, who is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, was later airlifted to a hospital.

"The choice to house Casio with Peterson was known or should have been a known danger," the lawsuit stated.

According to TMZ, the rapper, who claimed he was targeted due to his celebrity status, said the prison made a mistake by housing him with Casio, who has a "violent history."

Casio is currently serving a life sentence for charges related to attempted first-degree murder and second-degree murder. He was also convicted in 2008 for assaulting someone as a prisoner using a deadly weapon, and again in 2018 for making a deadly weapon.

Furthermore, the lawsuit alleged that the correctional officers' response was slow to the stabbing and that "There were not any flash grenades, smoke bombs, or rubber ammunition expelled to stop Casio from stabbing Peterson repeatedly."

Lanez got embroiled in a highly publicized legal battle with the Savage rapper in 2020, when he shot her in the foot, while leaving Kylie Jenner's pool party in Hollywood Hills, California.

Months later, he was charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence, according to the People.

Megan Thee Stallion was granted a five-year restraining order against Lanez.

"Talking about being shot still makes me emotional. I’ve started journaling as a way to better process my thoughts, hopes, and fears. Prayer has also played a therapeutic role in my healing, because I can have honest and unfiltered conversations with or without any judgment," the rapper told Elle in 2023.

The Canadian rapper, who was convicted in December 2022, is now locked up at California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo.
