A true-crime documentary about the killing of an Irish father of two, Jason Corbett, has been nominated for an Emmy.
The film, A Deadly Marriage, tells the story of Corbett's death and the long search for answers revolving around the crime. It is now in the running for the Outstanding Crime and Documentary.
The documentary began streaming on Netflix last year and soon became one of the most-watched titles on the platform. It covers the events leading to Jason’s death in 2015 at his home in North Carolina, where he was killed in his bedroom at the age of 30.

The film includes interviews with Jason’s children, Jack and Sarah, who lost both parents at a young age. It also features his sister, Tracey Corbett-Lynch, and her husband David Lynch. The family shared their experiences and memories, offering a closer look at the impact of the tragedy.
Jason’s second wife, Molly Martens, and her father, former FBI agent Tom Martens, were convicted of second-degree murder in 2017. They were later released in June 2024 after serving four years and three months in prison. Both took part in the documentary and repeated their claim that they acted in self-defence.
The film also shows footage that had not been seen before. This material adds new detail to the case and draws strong interest from the viewers.

According to The Irish Star, in a statement by Jason’s Journey, a group set up to honor his memory, said the nominations mean a great deal to the family. "This nomination is a meaningful recognition of the importance of telling Jason Corbett's story with honesty, dignity and care," the group shared.
They further added, "We extend our sincere thanks to all those who have supported, and continue to support, the pursuit of truth and justice and to the filmmakers and all involved in bringing this documentary to an international audience."Most of all, we remember Jason, with love."
The documentary is currently in a race with other outstanding titles. It is competing for the Emmy award with Aileen: Queen of Serial Killers, The Fox Hollow Murders: Playground of a Serial Killer, No Justice, Just Kills, Oklahoma City Bombing: American Terror, and The Strike- Independent Lens.
Winners will be announced on May 28 at the ceremony in New York’s Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Centre.
