Charges Against Him
Jones is currently facing two felony charges of soliciting a minor via computer and distribution and exhibition of materials depicting minors engaged in s----- activities. The charges against him were outlined in court documents. He was being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond for each charge, which was set by Randolph County Magistrate Benjamin Shepler.
Court Proceedings
At a preliminary hearing, the judge found probable cause for a solicitation charge in October 2025, and later, additional exploitation-related charges were filed against Jones. The solicitation charge will proceed to a grand jury. The hearing on the distribution charges, however, will be set for a later date. The court has also implemented the condition that if Jones makes bail, then he is not allowed to contact minors, and his electronic devices will be monitored.
Prosecutors said in court that Jones continued contacting the victims. He also expressed a desire for a relationship between the victim and his wife.
During the proceedings, several testimonies were heard by the judge, including those from investigating officers, Deputy and Task Force Officer D.A. Cale, along with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office and the Mountain Region Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. There was also a ruckus reported during the hearing, where a member of the audience had to be escorted out of the courtroom.
Investigation Details
According to the criminal complaint, the alleged victim, whom Jones targeted, was a member of his church. The victim was a minor according to authorities at the time of certain interactions. The interactions occurred online via a computer or phone, investigators said, and authorities emphasized that Jones was a person of trust.
The alleged victim said that Jones was their pastor and recalled an event where they and other juveniles went to Jones’ house in Randolph County, West Virginia, around December 2023, according to the complaint filed. The victim also told investigator Cale that Jones began communicating with them over the phone and emphasized being in a “clandestine relationship” once they turned 18.
The investigator also said he explained to the victim what solicitation of a minor via computer is defined as under the laws of West Virginia, and then asked whether they believed Jones had solicited them. The alleged victim responded “yes.”
There was digital evidence recovered from Jones’ residence by investigators, including multiple devices such as phones and computer storage devices. The complaint states that investigators found images of the victim when they were under 18 years of age. There was at least one AI-generated explicit image of the victim and another image of the victim in underwear. Officers are still reviewing thousands of files in the cellular storage.
