Prosecutors said a judge found probable cause on May 6 to charge him with first-degree murder.
Deputies arrived at the couple’s home on the morning of May 8 after Kyle Cathcart called 911 and reported an intruder had entered the home. He claimed the intruder stabbed both him and his wife during a home invasion.
When deputies arrived, they found Jodi Cathcart dead in a bedroom. Kyle Cathcart had injuries to his eyes, and investigators also described superficial wounds to his abdomen. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
After being released, Kyle allegedly made up a story. He told detectives that a person dressed in dark clothing broke into the home, stabbed his wife, and then attacked him with one of the knives from the kitchen.
According to investigators, Cathcart said he feared for the safety of his children and chased the suspect after he fled.
However, officers quickly began questioning his story.

Court records show that Ring camera footage captured a person in dark clothing leaving through the front door. The investigators noted and told Kyle that the man in the video resembles him. The detective also noted that there was no footage showing anyone entering the home before the attack.
At that point, Kyle denied hurting his wife by any means.
Investigators later found dark clothing stuffed inside a garbage bag near the crime scene. De active believe the clothing might have belonged to Jodi and had blood on them.
Police concluded that Kyle had enough time to leave the house, return through the garage, and stage his story before calling 911.
Authorities said they needed more evidence to verify the series of events described by Kyle. As the investigation progressed, they obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Following another interview with the police, Kyle was booked into the King County Jail. According to court records, a bail has not been set yet. Investigators have also not released the motive behind the crime.
