What Happened to Darrell Sheets? New Report Reveals ‘Storage Wars’ Star’s Cause of Death

Storage Wars star Darrell Sheets, better known as ‘The Gambler,’ was found dead by authorities on April 22. The reality show star appeared to have died from a gunshot wound to the head, which authorities determined was self-inflicted. News of his death led to speculation of foul play because Sheets allegedly battled cyberbullying before the tragedy.

However, a detailed autopsy and toxicology report have now confirmed Sheets’ cause of death. The report aligns with the initial conclusion by the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office, which had ruled the actor’s death a suicide.

The autopsy report was followed by another detailed toxicology report conducted to determine whether foul play was involved. His blood was tested for drugs including benzodiazepines, fentanyl, and cocaine, but all results were negative.

Sheets was described as a ‘well-developed, well-nourished adult male’ according to the toxicology report. Based on the findings, the coroner’s office confirmed there was no foul play and ruled the death a suicide caused by self-inflicted injury.

In 2019, Sheets suffered a heart attack, the only known major health issue in his medical history. After recovering, he retired and moved to Arizona, where he began running an antique store called Show Me Your Junk.

Authorities found the 67-year-old at his residence in the Lake Havasu neighborhood in Arizona. Officers from the Lake Havasu Police Department responded at 2 a.m., after receiving a report of a deceased individual. Paramedics at the scene pronounced him dead.

Police later confirmed the details in a preliminary statement. They stated, “The male was pronounced deceased on scene, and the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit was notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.”

Authorities said the investigation would continue, including reviewing allegations of cyberbullying. The department said, “The Criminal Investigations Unit has submitted Darrell Sheets’ cellular phone for forensic analysis and is currently awaiting the results. This investigative step is essential to advancing the case. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.”

Sheets rose to fame with his long-running stint on the reality television show Storage Wars, appearing in more than 160 episodes. The show follows professional buyers who bid on unclaimed storage units.

The show also occasionally featured his son Brandon Sheets, known by the nickname ‘The Sidebet’. After purchasing storage lockers, Sheets sold items at swap meets to make a living. He left the show in 2023 and later focused on his business.

Sheets’ death prompted a statement from the show’s producers. They said, “We are saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell ‘The Gambler’ Sheets. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
