According to People, deputies arrived soon after and confirmed the man was dead at the scene. Investigators from the department’s Specialized Investigations Division took over the case, and they found signs of trauma on the victim’s body. They quickly concluded the killing did not occur where the body was found. Instead, they believe the victim was murdered at another location and was later dumped along the road.

Officials said the victim was from Highland, California. His name has not yet been released, and at the time of reporting, his family has not been notified.

As the investigation moved forward, detectives identified a suspect. He was identified as 38-year-old Jimmy Rodriguez from Moreno Valley. The investigators stated that the victim and Rodriguez were involved in a physical fight in Highland. Detectives believe that the altercation led to the man’s death. Afterward, Rodriguez drove the body to Wonder Valley and left it along the roadside.

Rodriguez was later arrested and charged with murder. He is now being held at the Central Detention Center without bail.

In a statement, the sheriff’s department said that detectives are continuing to gather evidence and piece together the events that led to the killing. “The investigation remains active,” officials noted.

The discovery of the body in such a remote area has raised concerns among residents. Wonder Valley is known for its quiet desert roads and sparse population.

Authorities have asked the public for help. Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or has information about the case is urged to come forward.

The Sheriff’s Department asked people to contact its Homicide Detail at 909-890-4904. Those who wish to stay anonymous can also reach out to provide tips by calling or through texts. According to the officials, even the tiniest details could help bring clarity to the case.
