Where are Kouri Richins’ Kids Now? Family Shares Life After Their Father’s Murder

Where are Kouri Richins' kids now after she was convicted of her husband's murder
Four years after their father’s death, the three sons of Kouri and Eric Richins are growing up away from their mother and under the loving care of their father’s family. Following Kouri Richins’ murder conviction in March 2026, relatives say the boys are now safe, supported, and surrounded by love.
"They’re just loved. We have a lot of love surrounding them," he said, per KSL-TV. "They’re great boys, and they’re going to be fine."

Eric Richins was found dead in his bedroom in March 2022. At the time, his three sons were all under 10. Friends and family described him as a devoted father who spent much of his time with his children. He coached and assisted on all their sports teams and stayed closely involved in their daily lives.
"He was very good to the boys, and he taught those boys so much," said Kouri's mom, Lisa Darden, on a 2024 episode of 48 Hours. "They idolized their father and he idolized the boys as well. “
After Eric’s death, the case took a sharp turn. In May 2023, Kouri was arrested and charged with murder. Her trial stretched over the next few years and ended with a guilty verdict in March 2026.
By then, her sons had already been living with Eric’s family for some time. A juvenile court ruled in 2024 that custody would remain with his relatives. Kouri’s request for release before trial was denied.

During those early years, the boys had limited contact with their mother. Reports said they were allowed to speak with her twice a week through video calls only. Meanwhile, they adjusted to a new home and routine with extended family members.
Despite the upheaval, relatives say the boys have found stability. They are now entering their teen years and continue to live together with Eric’s side of the family.

Money and legal concerns also played a role in their situation. Before his death, Eric had placed his estate into a secret trust. He named his sister, Katie Richins-Benson, as its trustee. The move was meant to protect his children financially. Reports also revealed that Eric had at least six life insurance policies totalling nearly $3 million.
"Whoever ends up with the boys, ends up with the money," Lisa said in the episode. "It's not right."
Another layer of the case drew public attention. Just two months before her arrest, Kouri published a children’s book about grief. The book, titled “Are You With Me?, tells the story of a child coping with the loss of a father. It was dedicated to “my amazing husband and a wonderful father.
At the time, Kouri said she wrote the book with her sons. However, during her trial in 2026, text messages presented in court suggested the book had been written by a ghostwriter. It is now pulled from online stores.
Today, the focus has shifted back to the children and how they’re doing. While they’re still young to have their own private lives, their lives have been marked by loss and legal battles.
