Sources familiar with the probe said Allen may have avoided Patel because he did not want to target law enforcement. The suspected gunman allegedly wrote that members of the Trump administration were his main targets, but he made exceptions for security personnel and certain officials.

Cole Allen, who tried to assassinate Trump, is anti-Christian, and that's why he left out Kash Patel

“Anything would really just be speculation, but he took the time to go through why he wasn’t targeting all of the law-enforcement agencies, so I think it’s probably related to that,” a law enforcement source shared.

Another source also agreed with the statement. They said, “specifically said he didn’t want to target law enforcement. That’s why.”

Investigators are still examining all possible motives. One source also noted Allen’s reported anti-Christian views, whereas Patel is Hindu. However, they agreed that no conclusion regarding this has been made.

Allen is accused of opening fire near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton, where about 2500 guests were present. Shots were fired targeting senior officials, including President Donald Trump. One law enforcement officer was struck in a bulletproof vest during the chaos. Authorities say Allen then moved towards the ballroom before being stopped.

The suspect is now facing serious federal charges, including attempting to assassinate the U.S. President, and could face life in prison if convicted.

Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche said Allen has not cooperated with investigators since his arrest.

President Trump talks about Cole Allen's manifesto is a new interview

The case primarily centers on a 1052-word manifesto that outlines what Allen called his “rules of engagement.” In it, he wrote that administration officials were targeted, leaving out Mr. Patel, and should be prioritised by rank.

He also stated that Secret Service agents should only be targeted if necessary and, if possible, harmed in a non-lethal way.

He further added that hotel security, police officers, and National Guard troopers were not to be attacked unless they engaged with him in a fight. Civilians, including the hotel staff and guests, were not to be harmed either.

Undoubtedly, Allen came prepared but missed his shot. Trump himself talked about the events and stated that Allen should be scouted by the NFL because of his speed. As for FBI Director Kash Patel, he praised the response by security agents. He said, “They did exactly what they were trained to do. They stopped a massive attack.”

Allen made his first federal court appearance on April 27 and appeared defiant, according to details.
