Lieutenant Stanley Maresch told the media outlet that family members had called authorities to perform a welfare check because “they hadn’t heard from their mom in around three weeks.”

Barker lived at the home in Ballinger with her husband, James Barker, officials said.

James Barker reportedly told police that his wife “went to New York on an acting gig.”

“That kind of led to our suspicions," Lt. Maresch told KTXS. "Through investigation speaking with the husband and he confessed that he killed her."
