Dad accused of causing fatal injuries to 7-week-old child, now faces homicide charge

A father faces a homicide charge after police say his 7-week-old infant died with several fractures.

Paul W. Marshall, 37, was charged with first-degree reckless homicide, physical abuse of a child-reckless causing great bodily harm and physical abuse of a child-intentionally causing bodily harm.

He is being held without bond in the St. Croix County jail in Wisconsin.

On Feb. 4, first responders went to a home in Hudson, Wisconsin, for a report of a baby in cardiac arrest, according to Hudson police. Responders were told the infant was not breathing and CPR was in progress.

Medics got the baby breathing and took him to the hospital.

There, doctors said the cardiac arrest was a secondary illness caused by head trauma, according to Hudson police. The child had several fractures to the leg, ribs and skull.

On Feb. 7, the child died and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, police said.

Police investigated and on Feb. 16 announced the arrest of Marshall, the child’s father. Investigators have not said how the baby sustained the injuries.
