A homicide was reported in March by the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. It involved a 33-year-old Washington woman, Alyssa Bradburn, who murdered her father, Timothy Bradburn.
Alyssa was found guilty of first-degree murder with a firearm, leading to her father’s death. She was sentenced to 28 years in prison after admitting to the crime on April 2. Her demeanor in the courtroom has drawn attention.

Prosecutors alleged that Alyssa’s actions were not spontaneous. The attorney’s office produced evidence that the murder was well planned and that she journaled every step for over three weeks in preparation. Alyssa even practiced using a firearm in advance.
She displayed a chilling and stoic smile throughout the trial. She allegedly found the experience enjoyable. According to The Spokesman-Review, Alyssa was apparently ready for any sentence after admitting to her crime, saying she felt deserving of punishment.
Smiling during the trial, she said, “I killed Tim Bradburn, and I am guilty. I’m not afraid anymore. I’m OK with going to prison for however long.”

After fatally shooting her father, Alyssa Bradburn dialed 911 and reported the incident. She told police that she had shot her father as soon as he returned home from a trip to Hawaii.
Alyssa told the dispatcher how many times she had shot her father and also told them exactly where his body could be found. She claimed she would wait outside until police arrived.
An additional statement from the Spokane County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office noted a discrepancy: while Bradburn claimed to have shot her father three times, prosecutors said he was actually shot four times.
During the investigation, Alyssa reportedly said she had worn safety glasses and earplugs during the shooting. She also made sure to lock her pet dogs in a room so they would not be in harm’s way.

At the beginning of the trial, Alyssa Bradburn had defined her actions as an act of defence. She claimed her father was abusive towards her and her dogs. However, she later refuted these claims during the trial. While prosecutors concluded that Alyssa’s actions were deliberate, her defence attorneys argued that she was mentally unstable.
It was Timothy’s son who disputed claims that his father was abusive in any way. During Alyssa’s sentencing, Trace Bradburn said, “My dad was an amazing man, and he never did anything to hurt anybody. Whether that's physical, sexual, he would never have done that. Anyone who knows my father, my family, would attest to that ... so that, it just breaks my heart."
