Remains of Man Who Vanished in 1997 Found 28 years Later In Perfectly Frozen Condition: 'Unbelievable'

The mystery behind Naseeruddin's disappearance has finally been solved. 28 years ago, a member of the Saleh Khel tribe disappeared while trekking with his brother, according to PEOPLE. Naseeruddin's remains were discovered recently by Omar Khan, a shepherd in a region called Lady Valley. The body was identified with the help of an identity card. The most noteworthy thing about the discovery was the state in which Naseeruddin's body was discovered. Khan and the other onlookers were surprised to see the way his body was placed, even after two decades in the melting glacier of Pakistan's Kohistan region. Researchers believe that the finding sheds light on the distressing environmental situation of the region.

Discovery of the Body

Khan stumbled upon the well-preserved body, with intact clothes, in 2025, according to the BBC. After authorities used the identity card to confirm the dead as Naseeruddin, who disappeared from the area in June 1997, Khan was shocked. He called the entire thing "unbelievable," as the body had not undergone any drastic decomposition, with physical features still intact. "The clothes were not even torn," he added. Seeing the scene, authorities concluded that the man likely died by falling into a glacier crack. The body remained invisible for two decades, as it was surrounded by glaciers. However, likely due to the decreased rate of snowfall in the last few years, the glacier thawed and revealed the remains. 

Who was Naseeruddin?

Locals informed the authorities that Naseeruddin was a family man with two children. He and his brother were traveling on horseback on the day of his disappearance. The pair supposedly left their house due to a family feud on that fateful day. His brother Kathiruddin claimed that they arrived at Lady Valley in the morning. After some hours, the victim went into a cave and did not come back. The brother went behind him after some time, but could not locate Naseeruddin. Soon, locals arranged a search party, but to no avail.

Naseeruddin apparently had entered the cave because the brothers had heard some gunshots, according to Pakistan Today. As their family was embroiled in an honor-related issue, which had already caused the murder of a third brother, the pair was understandably afraid. The brother claimed that they had also taken an unconventional route to avoid such threats, but still, gunshots followed. Naseeruddin was supposedly trying to hide from any dangerous individuals, but unfortunately, he appears to have fallen into his death. Kathiruddin remains alive and is now faced with a complicated decision of either burying his brother's remains in the valley or putting them to rest in their ancestral land, from where they escaped. 

The Condition of Naseeruddin's Body

Dr. Muhammad Bilal from COMSATS University shared that the glacier provided conditions like extreme cold, reduced oxygen, low humidity, and snow cover to the body, which allowed it to remain well-preserved over the years. Now, climate change is triggering these glaciers to melt, and just like Naseeruddin's body, many previously lost or hidden objects could come to the surface. These revelations may solve mysteries, but bring dangerous concerns, such as the rise of the sea level, flooding, and much more.
