13-Year-Old Knocks Drunk Dad Unconscious to Stop Him From Strangling Mom, Police Say

A 13-year-old boy in Alabama allegedly beat his father after the man, who was intoxicated, tried to attack him with a bicycle, authorities said. The incident occurred on March 10, when the boy fought back after his intoxicated father attempted to strike him with a bicycle, according to police.

Danial Hernandaz-Lopez came home while intoxicated and allegedly under the influence of narcotics, authorities said. Hernandez-Lopez allegedly got into a heated argument with his wife and began physically assaulting her, police said. He also allegedly tried to strangle her. Their 13-year-old son witnessed the incident inside their home.

The 13-year-old then started punching Hernandez-Lopez multiple times, leaving him with two black eyes and a swollen lip, authorities said. During the confrontation, Hernandez-Lopez was intoxicated and allegedly under the influence of narcotics, police said. Hernandez-Lopez was allegedly knocked unconscious during the confrontation, authorities said.

Deputies later arrested Hernandez-Lopez and charged him with domestic violence.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a call in the early hours of March 10 about a domestic violence incident that turned into a physical altercation. Hernandez-Lopez allegedly tried to strangle his wife during a heated argument inside their residence and then went outside, where his 13-year-old son confronted him, authorities said.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s office also said Hernandaz-Lopez is not a U.S. citizen.

He was booked into the Baldwin County jail on the same day.

In the mugshot taken at the Baldwin County jail, Hernandaz-Lopez’s face was bloodied and bruised as a result of being confronted by his 13-year-old son. In the mugshot, there is a gash visible on his forehead, and his lips are also swollen.

In another unrelated incident that occurred in Southern Philadelphia, an 11-year-old boy allegedly took his mother’s gun and fatally shot his mother’s boyfriend to protect her. The 11-year-old witnessed an ugly confrontation between his mother and her boyfriend, where the boyfriend was physically assaulting her inside their residence.

The 11-year-old then picked up a gun, which was registered in his mother’s name, and fatally shot the man. The man was pronounced dead on the scene when the police arrived.
