17-Year-Old Arrested in Texas Apartment Complex Mass Shooting That Left 2 Dead

Victims of the May 2 Westminster Apartments mass shooting in Amarillo, Texas.
On May 28, the Amarillo Police Department announced that a third suspect had been arrested in connection with the Westminster Apartments mass shooting earlier this month in Texas.
According to a department press release, homicide detectives obtained a murder warrant for 17-year-old Excellent Vyizigiro for his alleged involvement in the May 2 shooting.
Vyizigiro was taken into custody and booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a felony murder charge.
All 3 Suspects Face Multiple Aggravated Assault Counts
Authorities said all three suspects in the shooting will also face 10 counts each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the mass shooting — one count for each person injured during the incident at the apartment complex in the 2400 block of Coulter.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional updates will be released as they become available.
The two teenagers killed were identified as 17-year-old Ezekiel Rudy Almazan and 16-year-old Deven Antonucci.
The Earlier Arrests in the Westminster Apartments Case
Detectives obtained a murder warrant for 20-year-old Eh Gay Htoo Win on May 21.
“Win’s original charges included unlawful carrying of a weapon by a gang member, tampering with evidence, and failure to identify. A murder charge has now been added,” the Amarillo Police Department said in a statement.
Meanwhile, a murder warrant was issued on May 20 for 17-year-old Jame Htoo in connection with the shooting.
Htoo was already being held in the Potter County Jail on unrelated charges when the warrant was obtained.
What Led to the Deadly Apartment Shooting?
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the apartment complex around 1:58 a.m. on May 2. When they arrived, they found a gathering involving multiple juveniles and young adults.
According to police, the party had initially begun at another location before moving to the apartment complex. Preliminary information indicates that several individuals were asked to leave the original gathering.
Those individuals allegedly followed attendees to the Coulter Street location, attempted to enter an apartment, and opened fire with a rifle-style weapon.
Two people were killed and 10 others suffered gunshot wounds in the shooting.
Suspects were reportedly asked to leave an earlier party, followed the group to the apartments, and opened fire using rifle-style weapons.
APD Homicide and PACE units recovered two AR-style rifles believed to have been used in the incident. Investigators also found a Glock 9mm handgun on a landing outside Apartment 244. Based on cartridge casings recovered in an alley south of the complex, detectives believe multiple weapons were used.
Authorities described the shooting as a targeted attack, though a motive has not yet been established.
GoFundMe pages have also been created to support the victims, Deven Antonucci and Ezekiel Rudy Almazan, and their families following the shooting.
“Deven was unforgettable — he had the most infectious laugh and smile, the main character energy those around him envied and aspired to match, much like his father,” Deven’s family wrote. “He gave the best hugs and was somewhat of an adrenaline junkie.”
Meanwhile, Ezekiel Rudy’s mother, Monica Almazan, shared an emotional tribute to her son.
“There are no words that can truly express the pain in my heart right now,” Almazan wrote. “Ezekiel was more than my son — he was my joy, my strength, and a beautiful blessing in my life. Anyone who knew him knows how much love he carried and how deeply he touched the people around him.”
