Pennsylvania man allegedly shot pet dog, burned its corpse in woodstove during attack on owner, police say

A Pennsylvania man formerly accused of raping and attempting to kill a woman now faces an animal cruelty charge after police said he shot his alleged victim’s dog and burned its corpse in a woodstove, an updated criminal complaint states.

In the original affidavit, authorities in Towanda alleged 26-year-old Kevin Jara-Sanchez in February threw a woman to the floor, beat her with a handgun, sexually assaulted her and threatened her life.

The victim suffered a collapsed lung, multiple broken ribs, internal bleeding and extensive bruising during the attack, among other injuries, WETM reported.

During the incident, the criminal complaint states, shots were fired and the victim’s dog, Ozzy, was struck and killed.

According to the complaint, the suspect then burned the animal in an outdoor woodstove.

Investigators executing a search warrant at the home where the incident allegedly occurred reportedly found multiple shell casings as well as bullet holes in doors, walls and furniture.

Jara-Sanchez was being held without bail in connection to the case.

The suspect was previously charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault with attempted grievous bodily harm and extreme indifference, strangulation, reckless danger, rape by forced compulsion, and sexual assault.

Police have now also charged him with a count of aggravated cruelty to animals.
