An Arizona man was arrested after authorities allege he stabbed his mother

According to the Chandler Police Department, authorities were called to a Chandler home in the 2700 block of N. Evergreen St. at approximately 4:30 a.m. local time on May 15, and found the victim critically injured.

At Randall’s initial court appearance, a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office alleged that he stabbed his mother on the side of her neck as she was asleep on the couch, AZFamily reported.

Although the victim lost a significant amount of blood and became unconscious, she was rushed to the hospital, where her condition stabilized following surgery.

"This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack. He indicated to law enforcement that he had been thinking about killing his mother for weeks and intentionally chose the location to stab her so that he would do the most damage," said the prosecutor, adding, "We are concerned that he is a very dangerous person and could possibly harm other people."

The suspect was immediately detained at the scene and is expected back in court later this month.

The judge also considered that Randall's family is worried about his mental health and agreed with the prosecution's request and set his bail at $1 million.
