Star Valley is a small town in a mountainous area northeast of Phoenix and borders the town of Payson to the west.

Plante was last seen on May 15, 1994, at about 12:30 p.m. near Moonlight Drive in Payson. She was wearing a white T-shirt with red, yellow, and blue shorts and black tennis shoes. She reportedly left home on foot to go to the stable where her horse was and was not seen again.

Sheriff’s Statement

MORE ON:
Missing Persons

“At the time of her disappearance, extensive search efforts were conducted involving local law enforcement, volunteers, and regional resources. Despite exhaustive ground searches, interviews, and investigative follow-up, no viable leads were developed,” said Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd.

Following her disappearance, Plante was entered into national missing children databases, and flyers were circulated locally, across the state and in other parts of the country.

Over the years, the case remained open and active, with investigators from the Gila County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit periodically reviewing evidence and following up on new information as it emerged.

“Utilizing advances in technology, modern investigative techniques, and detailed case review; detectives developed new leads that ultimately led to a breakthrough,” the sheriff added.

“After 32 years, Christina Marie Plante has been located alive. Investigators have confirmed her identity, and her status as a missing person has been officially resolved.”

Authorities said no further details will be released at this time out of respect for Plante’s privacy and well-being.

Plante is now 44 years old.

Social Media Reactions

The development sparked questions online, with some users wondering about the circumstances of her disappearance.

“Another question is, was she a runaway or abducted?” one individual questioned on Facebook.

“I’d want a DNA test to confirm kinship to known family members, just to make sure somebody didn’t steal somebody else’s identity. But hey, I’m paranoid about weird stuff,” another user wrote.

"Obviously, we’re all gonna be curious on what the circumstances were for the last 32 years. Maybe they’ll release them at some point," another individual commented.
