Woman wakes to find naked man had broken into her bedroom, police said

A woman awoke in her home to find a naked man in her bedroom, police said. Now, the suspect faces burglary and attempted rape charges.

Around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 1, officers from the Berkeley Police Department in California responded to Wallace Street for a report of a person looking in the window of a teenage girl’s bedroom.

As officers investigated the incident, they heard a woman screaming nearby, according to police.

Officers went outside and saw a woman come out from her home. She told police she woke up to a naked man inside her bedroom, police said.

The officers went into the women’s home and found the suspect hiding in a bathtub. He was naked from the waist down, police said.

Authorities arrested the suspect — who is 39-year-old, but his name was not released — and charged him with attempted burglary, burglary and attempted forcible rape.
