California Man Faces Homicide Charge After Body Found Under Blanket on Pennsylvania Roadside
A California man has been charged in connection with the discovery of a body from under a blanket on the road.
A man from California is facing a list of charges, including homicide, after authorities discovered a body near a Pennsylvania road under a blanket. The body was discovered near the shoulder of a road in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, according to officials.
Ilia Romachenko has been charged in connection with the discovery of a body in Londonderry Township on May 23.
The defendant has been identified as Ilia Romachenko, a 25-year-old man from Roseville, California, who is currently being charged with several felony counts of criminal homicide, abuse of corpse, possession of an instrument of crime and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, according to online records.
Romachenko was arrested on May 24 on homicide charges. He is now awaiting his preliminary arraignment.
According to reports from CBS affiliate WGAL, citing Dauphin County District Attorney (DA) Fran Chardo, Romachenko was arrested out of state and is awaiting extradition. According to reports from the Patriot News, Romachenko was allegedly trying to flee the country when he was arrested in Miami by authorities.
WHP reported that Romachenko is charged in connection with the discovery of the body over the weekend. The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) said in a news release that the body was found on May 23 in Londonderry Township around 10 a.m. near State Route 441.
The victim, who police has publicly identified, was described by officials as a man with dark brown hair, facial hair, and brown eyes, believed to be in his 30s to 40s. He was wearing a black Oakland Raiders shirt and was 5-foot-10 and 210 pounds, according to PSP.
Authorities have urged the public that anyone with information on the victim’s identity or the case to contact troopers at the state police barracks in Harrisburg.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the investigation as it remains ongoing. Information about why Romachenko was in Pennsylvania, how the victim died and what the motive have not been released yet. As the investigation continues, authorities have provided no additional updates.
