A California woman has been accused of committing extreme acts of animal cruelty under the guise of veterinary surgeries and other procedures. The suspect falsely claimed she held a license to practice veterinary medicine and even shared videos of some of these procedures on social media.

Her alleged actions left many animals to suffer from serious complications afterwards. Some of them required emergency veterinary care, and one of the dogs under her care died. Authorities have, as a result, opened an animal cruelty investigation against her.

Suspect Carried Out Veterinary Surgery Without License

Amanahy Becerra, 24, is accused of performing surgeries on animals without having a license or proper training to do so. On April 29, she was arrested by the Visalia Police Department on suspicion of animal cruelty related to the alleged procedures.

Authorities, in a news release posted on social media, detailed the allegations against Becerra involving animals. The surgeries she performed were allegedly done without anesthesia, causing the animals to suffer extreme pain during the procedures.

Because she had no qualifications or training in the veterinary field, multiple animals reportedly suffered complications after surgery. Some were rushed to emergency facilities, while one of the dogs died.

Fake Veterinary Surgeon Shared Videos On Social Media

According to a police spokesperson, Becerra reportedly performed procedures such as C-sections, spaying, neutering and ear clipping illegally. She did not have the veterinary license required to perform them. The woman even administered vaccines, though the source of the vaccines remains unknown.

She also shared videos of these surgeries on social media. She recorded footage while carrying out the procedures. Becerra reportedly offered all these services at a highly discounted rate to pet owners, whom she falsely led to believe that she had the proper credentials to practice veterinary medicine.

The police spokesperson, Liz Jones, spoke to the press and further stated, “She was claiming to be licensed, but she was not certified. She was not licensed at all. The situation is very heartbreaking. I mean, dogs and pets are our families. They expect us to take care of them.”

Woman Arrested Veterinary Surgeries But Denies Killing Dog

Becerra faced a felony warrant issued in her name on grounds of animal cruelty. On April 29, she was arrested without incident. Detectives executed a search warrant at her residence as part of the ongoing investigation. The woman was booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Detention Facility.

While the suspect was later released on bond, the investigation against her continues. Becerra, in a brief statement, denied any wrongdoing or killing dogs while treating animals. Instead, she blamed the pet owners whose dog reportedly died under her care.

Becerra alleged that the dog’s death was a planned euthanasia carried out by the pet owners themselves.

In the meantime, the police department has invited the public to provide any information that could aid the investigation.
