The cause of Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s death has finally been disclosed more than seven months after her remains were found in a car. The 14-year-old Lake Elsinore native was last seen alive in April 2025, when she went to the home of singer David Burke, known professionally as D4vd.

The vehicle in which her decomposed body was found also belonged to Burke. The singer has now been charged with first-degree murder and maintains his innocence. As the legal proceedings continue, Hernandez’s autopsy report was declassified on April 22, which revealed she died from multiple penetrating injuries.

Celeste Rivas Hernandez suffered two stab wounds to the abdomen and chest.

The autopsy report was generated in December 2025, and the death was ruled a homicide. However, the results were sealed as law enforcement agencies investigated the murder case. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, Hernandez suffered two stab wounds to the abdomen and chest.

The wounds resembled ‘sharp force injuries’ caused by an undisclosed object or objects. The medical report further determined that Hernandez’s body was partly dismembered, as she was missing two fingers from her left hand. Additionally, multiple blue plastic pieces were observed in some of her wounds.

The medical examiner also noticed traces of alcohol and methamphetamine or MDMA in her system, but concluded that they did not play a part in her death. The examiner noted that the alcohol could have also been present because of decomposition of the body.

Announcing the report, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Odey Ukpo released a statement that read, “After several months, I am grateful this information can now be released, not only to the public, but also to the grieving family enduring loss. It is unfathomable that they have had to wait this long to learn what happened to their daughter.”

Hernandez’s family reacted to the report through a statement released by their attorney. “The Rivas Hernandez family is absolutely devastated by the findings contained in the Medical Examiner’s report involving the horrible and gruesome death of their beloved daughter. They respectfully ask for privacy, understanding, and patience as they process this information,” the lawyer said.

Hernandez was reported missing by her family several times in 2024 while she was with Burke. The teenager allegedly connected with the singer online, and the two got into a relationship. The prosecution says Burke s—---- abused Hernandez for around a year.

According to investigators, Hernandez threatened to report their relationship, which allegedly alarmed Burke because he feared it could damage his music career. The singer, who shot to fame with TikTok, allegedly called Hernandez to his Hollywood Hills home and murdering her.

On September 8, 2025, an impound lot worker alerted police to a foul odor emanating from a Tesla vehicle. Hernandez’s remains were eventually discovered in the front trunk of the vehicle. Upon investigation, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) found that the vehicle was registered in Burke’s name.

Burke was arrested on April 16 and arraigned four days later. Along with first-degree murder, the 21-year-old singer is facing charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14 and mutilation of human remains. Burke has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his defense claims evidence will prove his innocence.
